Join us for a 4 night retreat, from Monday to Friday.
As well as 3 screenwriting classes with novelist and screenwriter, C M Taylor, you’ll get time to yourself to write, read, relax and enjoy the beautiful Devon countryside. There are 6 rooms available.
What will you learn? The screenwriting retreat will feature three classes suitable for both beginners, and for those with some experience who are looking to improve their script-writing skills. As well as looking at how to develop a speculative script from a brand-new idea, you’ll also learn how to adapt existing material (novels and short stories) for the screen – with a strong emphasis placed on the different demands of TV and film writing.
The classes will cover all the main aspects of screenwriting: genre, theme, act structure, character arc, dialogue and action. Plus, there will be time spent on the art of laying out a script, and on enjoying pages from some classic scripts, to find out what actually makes them so damn good.
Who’s C M Taylor? C M Taylor co-wrote the thriller Writers Retreat, starring Poppy Drayton. He has published five novels, lectures widely on many aspects of creative writing, edits fiction for publishers, and is an Associate Lecturer at the Oxford International Centre for Publishing Studies.
In screenwriting development, he has a historical action-adventure TV series co-created with Jeremy Sheldon, a supernatural thriller written with Tim Rhys, and has recently adapted one of his own novels for TV. These last three projects are still under wraps but come retreat time, you never know…
What’s included in the cost? The fee includes:
- all classes
- 4 nights in your own room with a writing desk and lamp
- three delicious home-cooked meals a day (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free can all be catered for)
