Ever found yourself daydreaming about a completely different life — not just a new house, but a new way of living?
That’s where I am now.
I’m looking for the next person to take on my Devon retreat — a rather wonderful 1600s thatched property in the heart of a proper Devon village, which over the years has become both a home and a successful little business.
And the more I think about it, the more I realise I’m not really selling one opportunity.
I’m selling a place that could become all sorts of things.
Take a virtual tour of Retreats for You…
It is currently an established writing-retreat business, with a lovely reputation, returning guests, an established newsletter/database and social-media following, and visitors who have travelled from both the UK and overseas.
But the next owner doesn’t have to be me.
It could become a home for yoga or wellbeing retreats, painting or photography breaks, creative workshops or small-group escapes. It could operate as a traditional B&B, a self-catering holiday property, or perhaps something I haven’t even thought of yet.
There are five individual guest rooms, separate owner’s accommodation, a large loft with further potential, beautiful private garden — and even a detached two-storey barn and studio, offering another rather intriguing possibility for the future, subject of course to the necessary permissions.
And here’s the interesting business bit.
Because I live elsewhere and have other commitments, lately I’ve deliberately been running only around one retreat a month. There is considerably more capacity here for somebody who actually wants to live on site and make the business their focus.
So this isn’t really about buying my lifestyle.
It’s about looking at the building, the location, the existing business and customer base and thinking:
“What could my life look like here?”
I’m ready for my own next chapter now, and I’d really love to find the person whose next chapter begins here.
By the way, if you can’t wait and we have whetted your appetite to come back while there are dates available, we have a memoirs retreat in January, a novel writing in February, Just Write, untutored, in March; and a screenwriting in April. Possibly a novel writing in May to be confirmed.

Or you can book a bespoke stay in October, November or December, select dates, just ask, if you can come with a group of five people I’ll give you your place for free. Or rent as a dry hire from £250 per night to the six bedrooms open (self catering).
The freehold property and business are being marketed at £599,000, contents by negotiation (I’ve got some lovely stuff and fabulous beds and writing desks in every room!). Full details on my website including a virtual tour – go to retreatsforyou .co.uk
And if you’re reading this thinking, “Not for me — but I know exactly who would love this…” please send it to them.
That might just be how its next owner finds it.
And starts the new chapter. I’ve loved mine.
Debbie
